The annual Armed Forces Parliamentary Scheme formally commences at the Defence Academy of the United Kingdom.

The Defence Academy delivers a comprehensive generic Introduction to Defence course for all students (parliamentarians from both Houses) who have successfully enrolled on the Armed Forces Parliamentary Scheme.

The two-day residential course format is a combination of presentations from internal and external guest speakers as well as a number of practical hands-on events and demonstrations.

The Defence Academy’s aim is to increase the students’ understanding of what Defence delivers on behalf of the UK and prepare them for their subsequent single service courses over the following 12 months.  The Defence Academy course explains the higher management of both the Ministry of Defence and the single Services as well as introducing students to the workings and ethos of the UK’s armed forces.

The Armed Forces Parliamentary Scheme is hosted by the Commandant and staff of the Joint Services Command and Staff College within the Defence Academy.
